From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

St. Lukes Evangelical Lutheran Church is a Lutheran Church and a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The church was founded on July 2nd 1886. The group of people who built the church came from another Lutheran church down the street (First English) because they didn't like the practices there. In 1886 only the sanctuary existed, and in 1926 the church decided to add an addition on. A highlight of the church is the baptismal font, from Wittenberg, Germany, where Martin Luther preached. In 1941, a Schantz pipe organ was installed to replace the old 1891 organ. In 1986, the buildings exterior was restored, because years of traffic had made it black. Also, in 1991, a clock was added to the front. There was a parsonage across the street until the 1950's when parking became an issue. The church is also a member of the Northeastern Ohio Synod. The church offers a summer program for grade school age children in the summer, which is free. They also offer two different worship services. The first is at 9:30 A.M. and is called Java With Jesus. It is a modern service, with new customs such as a coffee bar and digital music. Then, at 10:45 there is a traditional worship service, which exercises many traditional customs, such as only organ music, and kneeling at prayer. There is an average attendance of about 60 people on Sunday.
