St Edwards Christian Brothers College is a Catholic independent/private boys day school in Gosford, New South Wales, Australia administered by the Congregation of Christian Brothers. It caters for boys from years 7 to 12. Sometimes it is colloquially referred to as 'Eddies'. Principal Brother Peter Hester will be the last Brother to be a principal at the college, due to the sharp decrease in Brothers joining the Christian Brothers and is ceasing his principal duties at the end of 2008. St Edwards is the only Catholic Independent all boys Secondary school on the NSW Central Coast and has over 100 staff.

[edit] History
The school was opened in 1953 by the Congregation of Christian Brothers. It celebrated its 50th Jubilee in 2003.
The Regal Theatre, in the city, was demolished in 1978 and the remains of the building were used as land fill for the College ovals.[1]
In 2003 St Edwards College celebrated its 50th anniversary and on the day of its creation Founders Day used to be celebrated at the school with markets and games. Since 2005, however, the Founders Day was replaced with the Walkathon, an event where the children at the school walk or run to raise money.
[edit] Social justice
In 2002, Teacher, Patrick Dell introduced a program called The Waterford Project, where boys from years 8-11 perform compulsory community service. The Waterford Project is named for Edmund Rice, the founder of the Christian Brother's city where he began his work. It is a Social Justice program where the students 'give back' to the community.[2]
In conjunction with their teaching role, the Brothers are concentrating on troubled children and have opened an annex for such children, The Haven located at Terrigal. [3]
[edit] Academic arrangements
The College operate a year 7 core program where the students are placed in 'Core classes'. Here the students have one teacher in the same room, for their core subjects of English, Religion and HSIE. They then go to their other subjects. This approach helps blur the lines between Primary and High School.
[edit] Athletics
In June 2005 the school won its third state basketball title in four years.[4]
[edit] Alumni
Upon leaving school, students are able to join into the Old Boys Union, an organisation of ex-students that seeks to maintain the friendships created while at the College.[5]
[edit] Notable alumni
- Oliver Bozanic - footballer
- Morgan Ogg, a notable journalist and political adviser, who died on 28 July 2004 aged 41, attended the School.[6]
- Ricky Kennewell - Investment Banker, said to be involved in a Ponzi scheme in North America.[7]
- Ryan O'Sullivan - Convicted Bank Robber/Grand Larceny.[8]
- John Harry Roberts - Chief Financial Adviser for UBS, related to the much debated BHP-Rio Tinto merger.
[edit] Eddies Boys - The Brotherhood
In early 2006, Year 12 students of St. Edward's College, created an underground brotherhood/secret society, much like skull and bones at Yale University. This society was born out of necessity, as around the Central Coast of Australia, students were being harassed by students from other schools. Thanks to this secret society, current students are offered protection by ex-students in public and many local business owners also offer easy employment to ex-students.
In late 2007, a student who received death threats from students from other Central Coast schools, paid an undisclosed amount of money to the brotherhood. The brotherhood then arranged a meeting with the source of the threats and the threats ceased. [9]
