Stéphane Pounewatchy is a French former footballer turned football agent who was born on February 10th 1968. He was a defender who plied his trade in France, England and Scotland.

  • France Division 2 Championship in 1993.
  • Pounewatchy was Carlisle's first French player following his arrival in 1996 and was greeted with adulation by the fans.
  • He was named Man of the Match during Carlisle's second Wembley appearance during their victory over Colchester United in the Autowindscreens Shield in 1997.

  • When Stephane first appeared for Carlisle in a Pre Season friendly he went under the name Stephane Whatley - in a bid to hide his identity and secure his future as a Carlisle player
  • Pounewatchy appeared in some of the "FIFA" computer game titles in the mid 1990's as a blonde haired white man, despite the fact that, in real life, he was black.
  • After his playing career ended, Pounewatchy became a football agent, basing himself in the Newcastle area of England, but has recently moved back to France, having split up with his partner who was from North East England.
