[edit] my thoughts on the Pioneer disambiguation project
The current page is both a disambiguation page, a stub-article on Settler, and a stub-article on Military Pioneers. Im thinking the following;
- Change all links to 'pioneer settlers' to Settler or create a subpage for this particular meaning.
- Create a new article for Military Pioneers.
- Remove all links to Pioneer that are using the word as common usage, not specific meanings of Pioneer.
- Include in the disambiguation page a list of sporting teams (namely USA college teams) that use the 'Pioneers' as their mascot.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this and is it the right way to go about it? I'm only new at this and any feedback or pointers is welcome! *Spudzonatron
- You're right in assessing this page as a mess from a disambig point of view. Your link repair has been just fine, particularly in delinking the cases where they were "plain English words", as specified in WP:CONTEXT. The opening paragraph can be replaced by two entries: "Settler" and "Pioneer (military)". The second is a redirect, but that's fine, no need to avoid redirects in dab entries; in fact, a rdr that contains the term is preferred. Happy editing! Chris the speller 15:26, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

- Hi. I am fairly new here too so don't take my views as authoritative. Get the stubs of the page. Dabs is not the place for content. On the points you raise;
- I am not sure if a subpage is needed. But the link between pioneer and settler of North America is strong enough that Settler is a poor target for pioneer settlers. Consider European_colonization_of_the_Americas or a redirect to this page.
- I think Combat engineering(the target of the redirect page Pioneer (military)) handles this well enough. Link to Pioneer (military) in case anyone wishes to write the article.
- Yes.
- Absolutely not. At most create a page for this list and link to it from the dab page.

- Taemyr, i like your suggestion about European_colonization_of_the_Americas but am unsure how to fit it into the dab page... I've made a sandbox copy of the dab page at User:Spudzonatron/Pioneer if anyone wants to have a look. Spudzonatron 03:04, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- My suggestion. Also discussing in this way is silly, because deletion of pages requires admin privileges so to get rid of these pages we have to go through WP:SPEEDY. It would have been less disruptive to be bold, and do the edits directly on pioneer. Taemyr 04:22, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
