This is a list of United States and Canadian cities with franchises in the Major Leagues that have postseason and championship game droughts. Those cities which have never had a team make it in franchise history are listed by the date they entered the leagues. The list includes teams which have moved to other cities for the years in which they played in the first city.
The list is ordered by total team seasons. Because the NHL season begins and ends before the NBA season, the NBA season is considered more recent, even if the NBA team finished playing its games first (due to playoff games for the NHL team). For example, compare the 2007-08 New York Rangers to the 2007-08 New York Knicks.
If applicable, the list includes teams in leagues that have merged into the existing Major Leagues, including the American Football League, American Basketball Association, and World Hockey Association. The list does not count seasons that were cancelled or unfinished due to labor disputes, including the 2004-05 NHL season and the 1994 MLB Season. However, such seasons are counted when looking at the number of years that have elapsed since the last championship.
For purposes of this list, teams are considered to be part of the city that the team chooses to identify with. Thus, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are considered as a Los Angeles team, while the Anaheim Ducks are considered an Anaheim team.
