The Springfield Shield is an indoor football team that competes in the American Professional Football League. The team was originally slated to start play in 2008, but instead will wait a year and start in 2009. The Shield has no direct link to the Springfield Stallions, the city's first indoor football franchise that competed in the Continental Indoor Football League.
