Talk:Split vote
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
this article doesn't perhaps cover the term well enough. For example, I'm trying to find out, what does a "split vote" mean in case of the European Parliament voting for or against proposals, and I don't see the answer in this article. Or am I just being too stupid (not an impossible option)?
[edit] Merge with Spoiler vote?
Over on "spoiler vote", I see two votes pro, two anti, and two suggesting other courses: hardly an overwhelming majority in favour of a merge, but possibly an amusingly apt example of the "spoiler vote" in action.
A "split vote" is generally a very different thing from "vote splitting" (which correctly redirects to "spoiler vote").
It is normally used synonymously with "hung vote", or "evenly split vote". The meaning is "a vote in which no decision can be made". Unlike "spoiler vote" there is no suggestion that the split is caused by a third entity taking votes from an otherwise likely winner.
I feel that it is probable the "spoiler vote" sense of "split vote" is regional slang or political jargon, and do not think a merge is appropriate, as voting is hardly restricted to politics. --DewiMorgan 02:30, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
