Splint is a rock act whose final line-up came together in spring of 2004. The band is notable for featuring former Strawhorse guitarist Gene Johnston and bassist Greg Moore, who gained world acclaim after signing a deal with SCEA to feature the songs "Atlanta" and "Fishbowl" on the Playstation 2 game ATV Offroad Fury.[1] They were the only unsigned band to be on the game's soundtrack.[2]

Greg and Gene recruited singer Roger Ramsey from Florida Stone Temple Pilots tribute band Cracker Man. Boston drummer Jose Morales joined Strawhorse in their final months, and after Strawhorse disbanded agreed to stay as drummer for Splint.

In 2004 the band released their first EP, which was self-titled. This was produced and mixed by Scott Riebling (Letters to Cleo, Fall Out Boy, American Hi-Fi, Butch Walker), and mastered by Fred Kevorkian. It was sold via iTunes. The band is currently in the studio recording their follow-up album, scheduled to be released in mid-to-late 2008.

Splint were selected as "Band of the Month" by Pixi 103 Radio Station.[3]

[edit] Personnel

  • Gene Johnston – guitar. Johnston started playing guitar at the age of seven, in Dedham, Massachusetts. By the time he was in his teens he began studying with fusion great Gene Shimosato. Influenced by Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Living Color, Deftones, Nirvana, Alice in Chains and Jane's Addiction, he joined his first cover band, playing dances at local Catholic Church halls. Soon thereafter he met up with Greg Moore while working as a roadie in the Boston area. The two soon formed their first original act, Bananocide, an "over the top" punk act. Gene's work in Strawhorse has been featured in several websites dedicated to guitar tablatures.[4][5][6] He was also selected one of "Boston's Hottest Rockers" by a photographer from local magazine The Noise.[7]
  • Jose Morales – drums. From Boston, Morales began playing drums at age 14. He grew up playing the same music scene that spawned members of Puya, 40 Below Summer, Nonpoint, Ankla and Cardinal Sin and formerly played in speed/death metal band Nothing Remains. Being influenced by the American hardcore movement, Jose moved to Boston and began playing drums for the band Devour for several years, to a great deal of local success. After Devour split, Jose became the last member to join Strawhorse towards the end of that band's life, and subsequently joined Splint.
