[edit] The Spirit of Rosanky

is a non-profit organization dedicated to bettering its community through charity work, community fundraisers and activities and hosting a 4th of July festival called the Spirit of Rosanky Jubilee.

You can also go to the Spirit of Rosanky Website ( www.spirit-of-rosanky.info ) for current information on the organization and the 4th of July festival.

[edit] In 2000,

Greg Easterly and a few of his buddies decided to shoot off a few fireworks in Greg's front yard in "downtown" Rosanky. Rosanky's population is 250. That's 250 people not 250,000. Greg and Bobby Speer roasted a hog and as more and more community members showed up to watch the free fireworks show, Greg and Bobby started giving away plates. Now, they say that year was just practice and the first "real" year for the fireworks show was 2000.

[edit] In 2001,

Doyle Frerich joined in and gave away hotdogs along with Greg and Bobby's roasted hog. It was a tiny community "get together" that they called "Pigspit Jubilee."

As years went on, this "community get together" grew and grew as people from Smithville and Bastop (the neighboring towns) heard about this and started coming as well for the 4th of July.

[edit] In 2002,

Greg and Bobby decided to rename the event "Spirit of Rosanky Jubilee." This was done after the terrorist attack on our country (9-11) as Greg and Bobby thought that our Nation's Birthday should have a more respectable name than "pigspit."

Years went by and more and more Rosanky citizens became involved. Ronnie Frerich, owner of Wagon Wheel Gas-n-Go and Owls General Store in Rosanky, allowed the event to be moved to his land, in front of the Owls General Store so that there was more room for parking and for the crowd that had now accumulated. As years went on, Greg Easterly, Bobby Speer, Ronnie Frerich and others in the Frerich family worked hard to make this "festival" happen every year.

[edit] In 2007,

Greg Easterly and Ronnie Frerich decided to pass the torch onto the next group of community members to run this festival. A committee was formed (which included Bobby Speer) and took over all aspects of the festival. The name "Spirit of Rosanky Jubilee" was then designated to describe ONLY the 4th of July festival while the name "Spirit of Rosanky" would be the non-profit organization's name.

Committee Chairs for 2007 & 2008:

Tami Cooper - president

Annabelle Ballard - vice president

Barbara Weiland - treasurer

Kelly Benda - secretary

Bobby Speer - fireworks director

JR Cleveland - assistant fireworks director

The Spirit of Rosanky is now an organization that works within the community not only to expand the 4th of July festival (the Jubilee) but also to help Rosanky area families in need and offer Rosanky area youth community service activities.

In December of 2007

The Spirit of Rosanky organized a toys, food and clothing drive. The Rosanky area residents dropped off their donations at the Wagon Wheel Gas-n-Go in Rosanky. A week before Christmas, the donations were separated, organized and gift wrapped for the families in need in the Rosanky area. Then the Spirit of Rosanky president and treasurer personally delivered the gifts to those families. ″It was a heart warming experience to say the least!″ ~Tami Cooper, Spirit of Rosanky president.

The day the gifs were delivered by ‘Santa's helpers in Rosanky,‘ the Spirit of Rosanky sponsored a Christmas Caroling Hay Ride through Rosanky. It was a cold night but the citizens of Rosanky bundled up in coats and blankets and squeezed close to one another on a trailer of hay to ride down Rosanky Cattle Company Rd., over to FM 535 and back to the starting location in the Wagon Wheel Gas-n-Go's parking lot at the intersection of FM 535 and Hwy 304.

[edit] In 2008

The Spirit of Rosanky committee decided to start early on fundraising for the festival. The president and treasurer made Valentine's Day baskets to sell. All the baskets and other Valentine's Day gifts they made were all sold in two days!

The committee had a bake sale outside the casting call door for Brad Pitt's movie Tree of Life in Rosanky on Saturday April 26, 2008. And then sold Mother's Day "Tea Notes" as a fundraier which were mailed on May 6th in order to get to the 'Moms' by Mother's Day.

The committee will be having a car wash sometime in May or possibly June. It should be interesting, the president is calling it the "Top-less Car Wash."

[edit] 8th annual Spirit of Rosanky Jubilee

will be held on Friday July 4th, 2008 at the intersection of Hwy 304 and FM 535. Rosanky is located approx. 17 miles south of Bastrop, Texas on Hwy 304. This will be the first year for the festival to be held in the very large field behind the Wagon Wheel Gas-n-Go instead of in the confined Wagon Wheel and Owls Store's parking lots.

This year will also be the first year that the Spirit of Rosanky will crown a Jubilee Queen (similar to Rosanky's neighboring town of Smithville and its Smithville Jamboree Queen). The Spirit of Rosanky Jubilee Queen Competition will be held on Friday June 27, 2008 at the Smithville Middle School Cafetorium, time TBA. Admission is $5.00, children 4 and under get in free. Program books will be for sale for $8.00 each but these are not ordinary program books, the keepsake is worth the $8.00 fee.

The Spirit of Rosanky will crown a Jubilee Queen, a Jubilee Princess and a Jubilee Sweetheart (Spirit of Rosanky Royalty). The most talented winners for each age group as well as the Cover Girl (contestant with the best photo) will be representatives along side the Spirit of Rosanky Royalty throughout the year in neighoring festival parades and community activities. This is a wonderful way for the young ladies in Rosanky to get involved in their community. [1]

The festival on July 4th will include LIVE MUSIC by the Midnight Owls with a special guest, Bruce Dickson, former American Idol contestant from Bastrop, Texas. There will be food and drink vendors, a horseshoe tournament, a Moonwalk, Kiddy Train, Pony Rides, games and water activities to stay cool in the hot Texas sun.

At dusk the Honor Guard will perform the 21 gun salute and Bruce Dickson will then sing our National Anthem. Then at Dark:30, a lone blast will burst in the night sky as patriotic music starts to play and what will follow can only be described as "the Best Fireworks Show in Central Texas."[2]
