SpiderOak is an online backup program designed for use by the general public. In addition to remote backing up, SpiderOak stores all historical versions of files, can synchronize folders across multiple devices, and supports online collaborative sharing of projects. Because of its efficient compression technique, it is commonly used to store digital photos and other types of large files, as well as e-mail and other smaller file types.

Unique to SpiderOak is its encryption system, which among other precautions, does not store a user's password or have any knowledge of a user's data. Because of its strong encryption, the program is currently available only in the United States.

The project was started by Alan Fairless and Ethan Oberman in the fall of 2006 and became available to the public in December, 2007. SpiderOak offers free backup for up to 2 GB of memory, with tiered pricing for larger storage amounts.
