[edit] Ham

The use of the word ham to describe someone who is inept comes from the term "ham handed" or "ham fisted" and is also often applied to actors (ham actor) and comedians (ham or old ham), but is also used with pilot (ham pilot) and racer (ham racer). It is far too broad to be considered a sobriquet for any one of these conjunctions as it applies generally to the inept, not just to radio amateurs.

In delving into the subject it seemed that "ham operator" is used exclusively to describe amateur radio operators, so I would consider that to be the sobriquet you wanted to introduce. Regards LittleOldMe (talk) 08:48, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
