Legs that seem 6 feet long? I'm removing it as it doesn't make sense, putting her taller than a large portion of the population. Hackwrench 03:14, 27 November 2005 (UTC)

Someone should add a bit about Speed Racer clips being used in techno.

[edit] Quentin?

"As a proper name, Go is the equivalent of the English name Quentin." - does that mean that Quentin is his real name in the English version and "Speed" is his nickname? -HKMARKS 02:36, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

RESPONSE: I believe it actually refers to the fact that GO means five in Japanese, and Quentin is a name that derives from a word meaning five. -Clovis15 10:22, 16 October 2006 (UTC)

I believed one of the American comics actually claimed that his real name is "Greg", but I'm not sure if its canon. Jonny2x4 (talk) 05:35, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Info about the circumstances of the English dubbed version

It would be good to see further incorporation of some of the material available online as to the circumstances of the show's English-language versions, though the article shouldn't turn into a fan site type of thing... it could be nonetheless valuable to have a little about the tiny amount Fernandez and the others were paid (and the fact that one of the actors was actually sharing the salary of another), how Fernandez arrived at his versions, the fact that (if I recall correctly) they didn't get royalties, etc. It would take me a while to collect all this and properly edit it, so if someone else can do it on the fly, that would be a useful addition. Lawikitejana 09:04, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

To Whom It May Concern: Personally, I remember seeing the American version of Speed Racer a LOT sooner than cited in this entry. I can swear to it being on television at least back when I was in the fifth grade, if not earlier. That would put its original Trans-Lux syndication airdate circa 1972-1973 instead of the 1981-1982 cited in the openning paragraph of the entry, unless the author meant something else by that specific 1981-1982 reference. Also (if it matters) the NOW Comics adaptation at one point said that the G on Speed Racer's shirt was actually a monogram for his "true" first name: Greg. Should I make the necessary changes myself, or would you like to varify them first? Sincerely, Lee Houston, Junior (talk) 17:43, 24 May 2008 (UTC)Lee Houston, Junior leehoustonjr@prodigy.net

How do you pronounce マッハ? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 202.147.43.82 (talkcontribs) .

"Makha"... it is actually to say it, because I am a spanish native trying to pronounce a japanese word for an english user :-) -- ReyBrujo 03:31, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
It's actually "mah'ha". Tony Myers 02:01, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Production replica cars

Some time between 1998 and 2000 an auto production company built a sport car that looked exactly like the Mach 5 and sold a few thousand of them for about US$51,000. Does anyone have a link to their site (assuming that the company still exists)? I think I might have saved a few of their promo photos, but uploading them may incur copyright problems. — Loadmaster 01:18, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Found some info at http://www.sussexcountyonline.com, circa 2000, about the now-defunct www.MyMach5.com:
One of the more unusual vehicles at the San Diego International Auto Show was the Mach 5 Speed Racer, a limited-edition, Corvette-based roadster. ... The prototype sold for $180,000 at a collector-car auction in August and will go on permanent exhibit at the Petersen Automotive Museum[2] in Los Angeles. ... The road-ready Mach 5 sells for $72,000, ordered at the Web site (www.mymach5.com) with a $35,000 refundable deposit. Twenty percent of the proceeds go to the Child Safety Network. One hundred Signature Series cars will be built, each signed by actor Peter Fernandez, the original voice of Speed Racer, who also wrote and directed all 52 episodes, named all the characters and wrote the theme song, "Go Speed Racer Go."

[edit] Speed Racer and Mach Go Go Go

  • As much as the "Speed Racer" adaptation has a following in its own right, I strongly feel that there should be a separate article discussing the original Japanese series. There's a large amount of information on the original that could possibly be lost or misinterpreted if all of the focus is on the redubbed version. The same can easily be said for Gigantor and Astro Boy. Tony Myers 02:11, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] what about snake oiler?

i can't believe that snake oiler isn't mentioned. i thought there'd be a whole page for him, but not even a mention in the speed racer page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 222.228.157.137 (talk) 12:57, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] hay what about the band racer x?

surely the band racer x, the progressive metal band containing paul gilbert, should be mentioned withinn the legacy section as they were in fact named after the character Racer X (band)

[edit] Mach 5 Basis?

The mach-V itself seems to look a LOT like the Chaparral 2D Race Car '67 (made around the same time as the series AFAIK). There are slight differences, but it seems worthwhile to note it. {{User:Sephiroth111 | sephiroth111]] —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sephiroth111 (talk • contribs) 04:09, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Next Generation not canon?

"Tatsunoko, the original Japanese creators of Speed Racer, are not involved with this American-produced series in any way, and is therefore not considered canon, even though it builds on the original story."

Just because the original creator isn't involved, doesn't mean the show isn't canon. Speed Racer Enterprises and Lionsgate are overseeing the story, so it COULD be. We'll never know until the show is out. Many additions were made to the Oz books after Baum died, and many of those are considered canon. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.249.185.130 (talk) 16:23, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Triple entendre

Mach Go Go Go is more than a triple entendre. Whoever wrote the current bit seems to have been unaware that the "Mach 5" would be called "maha go go" in Japanese, and seems to have made some speculations about the title.

What's more, the section is unsourced; this leads me to believe it was OR. --Kjoonlee 15:35, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

More specifically, the second Go is an honorific suffix. It's used in the same way as -san or -chan, except -go is reserved for vehicles. Japanese honorifics don't translate, so they're usually either left as-is or dropped in English. The correct translation of the title is either "Mach 5-go, Go!" or simply "Mach 5, Go!" [edit] thing

Okay, I've noticed there is no plot summary whatsoever here. I'm not a big Speed Racer fan so someone else should put it in. [edit] TV-Guide "most memorable moments"?

Can anyone provide a source for the claim that "The Trick Race" episode was selected by TV Guide as one of the most memorable moments in television history? This is widely quoted across the WWW (probably because it appears here on wikipedia!) but I cannot confirm it. It does NOT appear in the 2004 TV Guide/TV-Land listing of the 100 most memorable moments. Doppelbock (talk) 16:03, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Tv movie and series the same

For SR:The Next Generation, the television movie that was released on DVD, AND the series, are ONE AND THE SAME! The three-episode movie is the PILOT episode. Someone please correct this in that section. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.27.149.133 (talk) 22:17, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Copyvio problem

It seems that the intro section has been lifted from [4]'s "about" section. The standard treatment for that kind of behaviour is reverting to a version previous to the likely copyright violation. Does anyone know when this text was added? --Alvestrand (talk) 11:19, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

No, but should it be sited, though? (the site) or do we make a new background all together? (Megamanno (talk) 16:59, 8 June 2008 (UTC))
The standard procedure is to roll back to a version previous to the addtion, then write the facts *in your own words*, citing the site as source of the information. But one reason why I'd like to track down the addition is that in one other case like this, it turned out that the text had been taken *from* Wikipedia *to* the other site - and this was fairly evident in the logs; the section had had many small changes over a period of months resulting in the version that the other site had used (without attribution). --Alvestrand (talk) 17:56, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
