As a chemist, I've never heard the word "specie" used to indicate a molecule/ion/atom; the word "species" is both the singular and the plural. Is this a British/American dichotomy, or misinformation? --ES2 19:46, 19 Aug 2004 (UTC)

It's misinformation. In chemistry, as in biology, logic, philosophy, etc., the singular of "species" is "species".

I moved the in specie definition to Wiktionary, since the AfD's recommendation from 2005 is contrary to current WP:MOSDAB. I'd go even further, though, and recommend this article become simply a reidrect to money. -- JHunterJ 12:54, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
