Special Security Force(SSF) provides physical security to the Very Important Persons (VIPs). Persons performing duties are called Agents who are selected and trained officers from Army, Navy, Air force, Police and Ansar. Persons from other ranks also actively support the organization. SSF is organized in various bureaus namely Ops and Protection, Intelligence, Logistics and Training. The office is located at Chief Advisor's Office at Tejgaon. SSF also maintains elite social life within its Mess and Officers quarter collocated to the office.^[1]

[edit] Responsibility

The mission of SSF is to provide physical security to the President, Head of the Government and any person designated as VIP by the Government of Peoples Republic of Bangladesh. SSF takes necessary measures in coordination with civil administration, securiy and intelligence organizations to prevent as well as protect VIPs from any threats. SSF also remain responsible for the security of VIPs’ offices and residences.^[2]

The idea of establishing a security force in Bangladesh for physical protection of VIPs was first mooted by the then President H M ERSHAD. Accordingly Presidential Security Force (PSF) was formed on 15 June 1986. Later with the introduction of Parliamentary Government System in Bangladesh, the force was renamed as Special Security Force on 27 September 1997.

SSF is organized in four Bureaus. They are:

    * Operation and Protection Bureau
    * Intelligence Bureau
    * Logistics Bureau
    * Training Bureau

SSF office is Located at Chief Advisor's Office at Tejgaon, Dhaka. It has its training complex and accommodations co located to the office.^[3]

[edit] Recrutment and Training

Officers are nominated from Defense and Security organization of Bangladesh like Army,Navy,Air Force, Police and Ansar. They undergo a selection process before being finally selected for SSF as agents. Others are selected through government specified process. And individual has to be Bangladeshi by birth to be recruited into the SSF.

Officers undergo rigorous training with special emphasis to Security concepts, Firing and Physical Efficiency on joining SSF. Besides various specialized courses on Protection, Intelligence, Driving related to VIP security in SSF are also imparted.^[4]
