[edit] Inclusion of Portugal
I don't agree with the inclusion of Portugal. Portugal was kept separated from "Spain" and its empire, as its empire. The text says "other Habsburg realms" (Portugal was an Habsburg realm" but the Portuguese Empire was also part of Portugal, so this text isn't completely correct too. The Portuguese empire was kept separated de jure and de facto it shouldn't be shown in this map.Câmara 20:04, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
- This is a tough one, as you probably saw on the Spanish Empire talk page. It's important to stick to what the convention is of map-drawers in reputable sources, not our own original research. I heartily agree with you that the Spanish and Portguese Empires were distinct - at best a union, and maps in sources seem to support this. However, many, many maps can be found that show Portugal as a "Spanish" or "Habsburg" realm. See here, for example [1] - search for "1600", or go to page 35.
