Category talk:Space exploration

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Spaceflight should be a subcategory of Space Exploration, Spaceflight is typically/usually manned. All manned "things" should fall under the spaceflight category will spaceflight should be a subcategory to space exploration. And non-manned space exploration should be under Space exploration.--aceslead 02:12, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

This certainly needs some sorting out (Human spaceflight is a subcat of Space exploration but not of Spaceflight currently.) I would agree that Space Exploration should be the top category, but disagree that Spaceflight means manned. That is why we have the "human spaceflight" category. I would suggest having Space exploration as the top including most of what are subcats of Spaceflight now, and including subcategories for manned and unmanned spaceflight. Than Category:spaceflight could be restricted to technical issues of spaceflight like Atmospheric reentry, Ballistic reentry, etc. However, no categories would be merged this way. Agreed. I am working on an overhaul of the categories and breakdown of Space - I think categories should match with top-level articles. As it is now, there is a web of articles, categories and projects that sometimes loop reference each other ad infinitum. The first thing to work on would be to figure out the main breakdown from the top-level Space. See Template:WikiProject_Space/Categories_main for the current top-level categories. --Exodio 03:11, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
I've been trying to empty out Category:Spaceflight, and plan on taking many of the articles currently in Category:Space exploration to more appropriate subcategories. Mlm42 10:57, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
I'm still undecided whether Category:Spaceflight should exist; mostly i believe the difference between it and Category:Space exploration is confusing, and perhaps pedantic; so it would be easiest to just have the one category. Mlm42 11:00, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
