[edit] First Comments

  • What is a 'Bantam battalion'? One of the regiments is described as such but there is no clarification of what this is on the Bantam page. Tkessler 16:53, Mar 19, 2005 (UTC)
"A bantam, in British army usage, was a soldier of less-than-average height.During the First World War, the British Army raised battalions in which the normal minimum height requirement for recruits was reduced from 5'3" to 5'. This enabled otherwise healthy young men to enlist." (From Bantam (military), created Feb 2006). Swanny18 13:10, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

  • Why won't Lt. Chard wiki link? Lion King 18:17, 23 November 2005 (UTC)
Seems it does, now. Swanny18 13:12, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WPMILHIST Assessment

A fine start, long, with infoboxes and pictures.

  • The intro is far too short, and is drowning in the surrounding Table of Contents and Infobox. Please expand to include the dates it existed, and at least a few sentences about the conflicts it took part in and the regiment's significance.
  • The sections on the Zulu War and some of the other sections look good for length and detail, but far too much of this article reads like a bullet-point timeline; please try to incorporate these events into prose paragraphs.
  • The battle honors is formatted in such a way as to be nearly useless, and hurts my eyes. Admittedly, listing it out long with bulletpoints or something would be equally undesirable, but every time I see a section like this, I wonder what can be done.
  • Please cite references!

Thanks! LordAmeth 20:51, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

I've changed the layout of the battle honours, to make them more accessible. I've also got rid of some of the links; some of them didn't lead anywhere useful, and anyway it seems clearer to just have the campaigns in blue, as the battles are listed there. What does anyone think of that? Swanny18 15:38, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
On second thoughts I've removed all the battle links; I think it looks clearer. But if anyone disagees let me know and I'll put them back; I've got them saved for now. Swanny18 15:48, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your efforts. The page looks quite a bit better now. I apologize for leaving such harsh comments - somehow they didn't seem quite so harsh as I was writing them as they do now, looking back on it. In any case, an interesting subject, and a fair treatment. Thanks again. LordAmeth 21:41, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Normandy

How does one batallion serve as part of two divisions? The article on the 7th Armoured Division does not include any mention of the SWB. --Yendor1958 (talk) 06:55, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
