South Jersey Paranormal Research

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

South Jersey Paranormal Research or SJPR is a nonprofit organization with 501(c)(3) status that is devoted to the study of the paranormal and ghostly phenomena. SJPR was founded in November 2001.

According to their website, SJPR has conducted investigations at places of business, private homes, historical sites, and cemeteries in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. The group claims that there are approximately 30 members of SJPR, comprised of "health care professionals, secretaries, homemakers, education administrators, realtors, college professors, graphic artists, computer experts, journalists and law enforcement officials."

The group is led by a Board of Directors consisting of Susan Bove, Sherri Halpin, Rorie Hirschmann, Karen Spring, and Debra Thornton.

South Jersey Paranormal Research is headquartered in Blackwood, New Jersey. The group's web site is www.sjpr.org. The website offers what the group claims is documented evidence from SJPR's investigations, including photographs, audio clips, and video clips that the group offers as evidence of paranormal activity. The group also offers a "Skeptic's Corner", which allows those who doubt their cause to speak.

To support its beliefs, the group offers a page within its website that links to other resources that may be of interest to those seeking information regarding paranormal activity.

[edit] Media Attention

The group gets most of its media attention around Halloween, and has been featured by numerous media outlets in the South Jersey area. A 2005 visit to the Burlington County Prison was covered by Philadelphia NBC affiliate WCAU. Link

[edit] Criticism

One harsh critic of the group has been a South Jersey Blogger, Michael Crook. In an April 23, 2008 entry on his blog, Crook questioned the group's motives and the fact that they enjoy non-profit tax status.
