South Georgia College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award certificates and associate degrees. South Georgia College is also certified under the National League for Nursing and the Georgia Board of Nursing.
Credits earned at SGC are accepted by colleges and universities across Georgia and the nation.

Created by an act of the Georgia Legislature on August 18, 1906 as the 11th District A & M School, it became Georgia's first state-supported two-year college in 1927. In 1932 it emerged as one of the original 26 institutions of the University System of Georgia which traces its origins to the chartering of the University of Georgia in 1785. Joseph Meriwether Thrash (1885-1947) joined the faculty in 1907, and later served as the fifth principal of the A & M School. He became the college's first president in 1927.

Douglas, GA is a friendly, growing community of 11,246. Situated just off the main highway through town, the campus is a short walk from shops, restaurants and supermarkets.
South Georgia College is easily reached from US Highways 221 and 441 and Georgia Highways 32, 135 and 158. Interstates 16, 75 and 95 are also nearby. SGC is located two hours from the Atlantic Beaches and Jacksonville, Florida, and four hours from Atlanta. The climate includes short, mild winters, and delightful spring and fall seasons. Summers, not surprisingly, are quite warm, but not unbearable.

College is located in Douglas, Georgia, Population 11,246. Douglas is in Coffee County Population of 40,242.
The Douglas, Georgia area abounds with a variety of activities. Douglas is also located near the General Coffee State Park and the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. Whatever your interest - biking, camping, golfing, river fishing, tubing, hunting, or just plain relaxing - it can be found in and around Douglas, Georgia. Douglas has a small-town atmosphere with safe, friendly neighborhoods, affordable housing, and excellent medical care.
[edit] Admissions Requirements
Prospective students must submit an application, high school transcript or GED scores and an immunization form. SAT/ACT scores are not required; however, students may be required to take the COMPASS Exam to determine the need for learning support.

Holdings in the South Georgia College William S. Smith Library exceed 100,000 items, including reference books, bound periodicals, government documents, pamphlets, maps and videotapes. The library subscribes to 327 journals and ten newspapers. Back issues are available in a variety of formats: CD-ROM, paper, microfiche and microfilm. GALILEO (Georgia Learning Online, a statewide initiative) links SGC's library with others in Georgia to offer more than 100 generalized and specialized research databases. The reference area also offers CD-ROM based indexes to general periodicals and newspapers. Computer workstations offer access to the Internet through the campus network. Word-processing software is also available.
[edit] Faculty/Student Ratio and Average Enrollment
1:20. About half of all faculty members have Ph.D. degrees or equivalent. There are no graduate assistants teaching classes at South Georgia College. Student enrollment is 1,500.
[edit] Financial Aid and Scholarships
South Georgia College's Financial Aid Office awards over $3 million in assistance every year. Seven out of 10 SGC students receive financial aid in the form of scholarships, grants, loans or through the federal work-study program.
South Georgia College offers several dozen merit-based scholarships through the South Georgia College Foundation. Many scholarships are merit-based, but others are granted depending on a student's financial situation. Applications for scholarships are available in the Office of College Relations.

South Georgia College offers the convenience and educational advantages of on-campus housing for students. In 2007, the college completed construction of Tiger Village, a modern 250-bed residence hall featuring two-room and four-room suites. The college provides 24-hour security and all the amenities for a supportive living and learning environment. A four-room suite is $2,085 per semester; a two-room suite is $1,930 per semester. Prices are lower during the shortened summer terms.
All freshman and new campus residents are required to live on campus unless they:
- are 21 years of age or older
- have earned more than 30 credit hours
- are married
- are living with parents
Students living on-campus partipate in the meal plan, and commuting students may purchase optional decling balance accounts.
[edit] Athletics Intramural Sports and Recreation
Students may participate in intercollegiate men's baseball and soccer and women's softball and soccer. South Georgia College is a member of the Georgia Junior College Athletic Association and the National Junior College Athletic Association. SGC students may participate in flag football, basketball and softball. Other activities include tennis, weightlifting, golf, table tennis, billiards, volleyball, racquetball and handball. Fields for softball, soccer and flag football, racquetball courts, a basketball court, a baseball stadium, an indoor swimming pool, a nine hole golf course and tennis courts.

- Founded in August 1906, South Georgia College celebrated it’s Centennial during the 2006-2007 academic year. First classes were held in the Fall of 1908.

- An endowment funding a perpetual scholarship may be established and named in honor of an individual, family, association or business through a single contribution of at least $12,500 or through a pledge of $12,500 payable at the rate of $2,500 per year over a five-year period. The principal amount of the gift will remain intact, while the interest earned will be used year after year to make scholarship awards to worthy SGC students.
- Gifts can be given to the SGC Foundation in the form of cash, securities or real estate, life insurance, wills or trusts.
- The South Georgia College Foundation is incorporated under the laws of the State of Georgia and is recognized as a tax exempt organization under section 501 © (3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code. Gifts to the SGC Foundation are tax deductible.
The school's mascot is the Tiger.
