The South Asian Strategic Stability Institute is an independent research institute founded with the premise of promoting peace and stability in South and South West Asia.

The South Asian Strategic Stability Institute was previously a research department within the Department of Peace Studies at the University of Bradford. The South Asian Strategic Stability Unit (SASSU) was established in February 2004 as a specialist research Unit within the Bradford Disarmament Research Centre with a grant from Pakistan’s National University of Science and Technology.

In February 2004 the decision was made to take SASSU out of the academic environment and convert it into an independent entity. Former Deputy Director Ms. Maria Sultan took over as Director and Nick Robson as Programme Manager.

SASSI has been headquartered in the Aldgate district of London since 2006. In November 2006 SASSI hosted its first international conference in Bruxelles entitled ‘Strengthened Export Controls: Pakistan’s Export Control Experience Current and Future Challenges and Options‘.
