English: South Shields Tyne and Wear Metro station is on a bridge over one of the main shopping streets. The original station was located on land currently used only as sidings to the east (left) of the present station. When the Metro arrived in 1984, one of the two tracks over the bridge was removed and and the single platform station built on the space it occupied.
