Solomon-Lautenberg amendment

The Solomon-Lautenberg amendment is a 1991 law that requires U.S. states to impose a mandatory six-month drivers license suspension for drug offenses, or face loss of federal highway funds. States are allowed to pass legislation opting out of this.[1]
