The San Pedro Haunting (or alternatively the San Pedro Case or Jackie Hernandez Case) was a very fearful poltergeist case that occurred in 1989 in San Pedro, California. A woman named Jackie Hernandez, living in a bungalow with her two infants , Jamie and Samantha, claimed that she was besieged by a spirit of a man who was killed more than 60 years ago in San Pedro Bay. Whether this man was seeking for a personal vendetta or for some kind of resolution, is still unknown for the paranormal researchers but all what we can tell is in the evening of August 8, 1989, "the entity" was utterly decided to change Jackie's life once for good.

The infamous bungalow belonging to Jackie Hernandez, where many people witnesses paranormal activities taking place in the house.

Just like the original Entity Case which dated back in 1974, and later was made into a motion picture, the San Pedro Case (which might be dubbed as "The New Entity Case" or "The Entity of the 80s") was taken seriously into consideration by the Nation Leading UCLA parapsychologist Dr.Barry Taff who has more then 30 years of expertise in the field of paranormal investigations. Along with him came his associates Barry Conrad a professional cameraman who joined Taff in the early 1988 , and the skeptical still photographer Jeff Wheatcraft. Other members of Taff's team included Larry Brooks, a local-journalist and Gary Boehm, another professional still photographer and Conrad's former classmate.

However, as the case progressed ,this harmful poltergeist showed hostilities not only towards the restless Jackie but also towards Conrad and Wheatcraft who were also listed as the victims of this spookiest affair. The entity itself followed the team to their own homes and started haunting theirs life just like it did with Jackie.

[edit] Appellations of the Case

The case has several appellations. First, it was called The San Pedro Haunting, since the events started in San Pedro. It was also credited as the Jackie Hernandez Case. Another name given to it is the Hazardous Case, the adjective "Hazardous" came from the word "Hazard" which coincidently refers to Jackie's maiden name before she got marry, Jackie Hazard.

[edit] About Jaqueline "Jackie" Hazard Hernandez

Image:JHC001.jpg
After Carla Moran, Meet Jackie Hernandez, the "haunted lady".

Jackie Hernandez (b.1963) [maiden name is Hazard] was a typical californian woman whose past background was just like a real roller coaster ride, going up and down. She was married then divorced from her estranged husband who impregnated from her second child after a made in hell marriage. Also, according to Barry Taff, Jackie was sinked into a lot of emotional plights. She was a depressed lady and her anxiety was fueling her life. She had also some intense generalized anger, distress and even pent-up hostilities. It is noteworthy to say that she had a history of emotional abuse and lived in a very dysfunctional family. She also endured a very intense, hectic life. Taff even believed that" Mr. Spock from Star Trek fame would have summed up Jackie’s personality as "A mass of conflicting impulses""

In the early 1989, Jackie was fed up of being troubled by ghosts. Her neighbor and close friend Susan Castenada decided to call up Dr. Barry Taff. However, Jackie was not ready to meet him at that time when she was pregnant of Samantha. According to Taff, at this early stage, Jackie was excessively concerned about the possibility that Taff and his team would automatically assume she was rather a crazy woman, going frenzy and therefore she would not allow them to meet her or speak with her. Jackie was 26 years old when the entity started troubling her life.

[edit] Act I : The Fall of the House of Jackie

Jackie suspecting an evil presence at the back of her house.
I was afraid of ghosts, I was afraid of people breaking into my house [chuckling] but for some reasons in this house, which was a very easy house to break into if you look at it, I was not afraid and I felt some kind of presence, but I never really found about it..

The comment made by Jackie Hernandez in an interview about her case. She stated that her house "was easy to break into", but what she ignored at the beginning was that the "visitor" who broke into her house was quite special and was already roaming inside her home. The evil presence that she felt would soon turned into something more.

Early 1989

In early 1989, Jackie was pregnant of her second child Samantha who would come to life in April of that year. The first unusual thing that occurred was the pencil holder which toppled over her desk while she claimed in her interview that she was far from her desk. In February, the presence became more and more terrifying, as Jackie observed an apparition of an old man in her home while she was heading in the bathroom. She also saw another man sitting in her child's bedroom. According to her description that she gave, the man in question bore a striking resemblance to the actor Ernest Borgnine, he was in his late fifties or early sixties, he was wearing a plaid shirt and 50's style gasoline station attendant high-water pants. The man had a sunken and emaciated look with large peering eyes.

As if there were not enough, she also claimed that a painting frame in her house suddenly took off from the wall and flew across the room and came landing on the kitchen's countertop. A lamp suddenly took off the night table and crushed on the ground. Jackie noticed a stream of water mysteriously pooring out of one of the light switches. She notified her best friend and neighbor Susan Casanada, but Susan remained quite skeptical at that time, she thought that Jackie's pregnancy was playing tricks with her, until she claimed that she personaly witnessed peranormal activities in her house when the manifestation started.

In April 1989, Jackie gave birth to Samantha. One evening, while Jackie went out of San Pedro, Darlene, Jackie's friend agreed to babysit Jamie and Samantha. Darlene claimed that she saw a shadowy figure that seemed to be "so far away" from her and heard voicing telling her "don't come in here". The voice was so spooky and scary that made Darlene believe that "he" could hurt her if she refused to obey.

[edit] Act II:Enough is Enough

The researchers decide to go to Jackie's bungalow to invistigate about the case.
I went up into the attic and checked out. It's a very small attic. It's very simple. There is nothing up there, basically. But you know, as I walked around, I felt like there was something looking at me. You know when you get this feeling that something is looking at you, something behind you...

August 8th 1989

In the evening of August 8, 1989, an elite group composed of the US most respected and Nation Leading Parapsychologist Dr. Barry Taff, videographer Barry Conrad , still photographer Jeff Wheatcraft and San Pedro local news-reporter Larry Brooks storm Jackie's little bungalow. They decided to interview at great lenght Jackie Hernandez and Susan Castenada who both claimed that the house was definitivly growing with apparitions and other paranormal activities, notably the apparition of the elderly man, Jackie also reported about the disambodied head that she saw floating in her attic one day after she moved in. The attic's opening which is the main element of the case , is located just above the laundry room which is connected directly to the small kitch at the back of the house. It should be noted that Jaff Wheatcraft, the still photographer of the case remained quite skeptical until the apparition itself started to hunt his life. Just before leaving, Larry Brooks asked Jeff Wheatcraft if he could go upstairs in the attic and shoot a couple of photos.

Jeff acquiesced and while standing atop a washing machine, he started snapshooting with his camera. As he was about to take the third still, the team heard a loud scream coming from the attic as Jeff bolted away as if a "a shrieking Banshee were on his tail!". He approached the invistigation team, and with his trembling hands, he stated that something has pulled his camera off his hands.

Amazed by Jeff's account, Barry Conrad decided to venture into the attic with his camera rolling. While Jeff and Barry were roaming inside the attic space, they soon discovered that there was anyone, or any secret passageway or hidden opening which permitted to a prankster to vanish. However, couple of strange things happened again. First, as soon as Barry peered into the glommy attic, his camera abrutly stalled with a series of intance statics, he quickly replaced the battries but in vail, the camcorder remained inoperative. According to Barry, when the camera generally went out in normal situation, the pilot green light switched directly to red to notify that you have to change the battrey, as it is the case to all standard camcorders, but in this case, the red light failed altogheter.

All a sudden, Barry's camera stalls while filming the gloomy attic.

Suddenly, the group, along with Jackie, Susan heard footsteps noises coming from the attic. It looked like as if a guerrila of fighters, wearing heavy boots are just walking above in the attic. Jeff decided to go upstairs. According to him, the darkness of the attic was impossible to disipher
