Softsled is a codename coined by Microsoft to describe a proposed extender feature for their Media Center software that would permit two or more Media Center computers to communicate, share and display media content.
[edit] SoftSled Project - Open Source Media Center Extender
Softsled is also the name of an project attempting to create an open source software extender for Media Center independently of microsoft. The project can be found at Softsled.net
The main golas of the SoftSled project are:
- Get the attention of the media center community and able developers.
- Motivate able developers to work towards the common goal of creating an open source media center extender.
- Make this open source media center extender available on multiple platforms (Windows and Unix) and possibly even live disks.
- Keep the community informed of all available "softsled-like" solutions.
- And if all that doesn't work, maybe we can just create enough buzz so that Microsoft will finally release softsled.
