[edit] Upcoming ride
The attraction is reported to be a roller coaster similar to Revenge of the Mummy, Space Mountain, and Thrill-World's own Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon Coaster. It will feature a blast-off sequence on a 90 degree angle, followed by a drop straight down, though it will only be 17 feet tall.
The attraction takes guests to a fictional newly discovered maya land called Calypo. It will feature a decorative outdoor queue themed to a grand opening of the land, as well as an indoor queue themed to a maya museum and a dark side of the Calypo land. During the actual ride experience, guests are taken through an indoor maya tomb while learning the dark secrets of Maya king Lord Pacal.
According to park executives, the ride will combine thrilling turns and drops, with suprise creature effects, and a new 3-D experience to create an all new experience for the park's guests.
[edit] Other Detalis
In April, 2008, The Taki River Journey's Taki River Gear gift shop was closed, reportedly to become a maya themed gift shop titled Maya Stuff in anticipation of the attraction. It is planned to open in Summer, 2008.
[edit] Opening date
Though park executives have not given much information on the ride's opening date, they have confirmed it will open in 2009. Recently, an article from the Orlando Sentinial suggests the ride will open in Mid-2009. Another rumored date from Screamscape.com suggests April 16, 2009. The Tampa Tribune also suggests Spring, 2009.
[edit] Construction
The construction on the attraction officially began on January 10, 2008, with the painting of several Calypo signs onto the exterior. In March, 2008 the entire exterior was repainted to a dark, grayish shading, with a nest near the entrance repainted white. The interior construction began on April 29, 2008, with the placing of one or more track pecies. In May, 2008 the entire exterior became covered with multiple plaques and decorative statues. The construction is planned to continue until at least Early 2009.
