SNCF Class BB 9200 Capitole

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The six BB 9200 Capitole (nicknamed "BB Rouge") were the first SNCF high-speed locomotives (faster than 160 km/h) for regular passenger train service. They were a sub-series of the BB 9200.

They were assigned from 1967 to 1970 to pulling rapid Capitole trains between Paris and Toulouse.

While the BB 9291 et 9292 were designed and built for high speeds (they could reach 250 km/h), the 9278, 9281, 9282, and 9288 were actually transformations of serial machines, and were limited to 200 km/h.

The BB 9200 rouges with their "Capitole" plates were also a model in rail transport modelling especially the Märklin and Roco (Roco 43563) models, renowned by hobbyists. (The Märklin 3059, which reproduced the BB 9291, is especially prized.)
