In 1999 the Total SA company was fined €375,000 for an oil spill that stretched 400 kilometers from La Rochelle to the western tip of Brittany. The company was only fined that amount because they were only partially liable because Total SA did not own the the ship. The plaintiffs had sought more than $1.5 billion in damages. More than 100 groups and local governments joined in the suit. The Total company was fined just over 298 million dollars. The majority of the money will go to the french government, several environmental groups, and various regional governments. The Total SA company was also fined $550,000 for the amount of marine pollution that came from it. After the incident with the oil spill happened they tried to restore there image opened a sea turtle conservation project in Masirah for the past years.

The Saudi Aramco company issued a statement in 1998 that stated that the company is trying to reduce the amount of lead in there gasoline. Saudi Aramco has already done so by about 50%. The Saudi Aramco corporation is a leading pioneer for helping the environment and they have done so as early as the 1960's. The Saudi Aramco company is said to be one of the most environment friendly there is. They even won the award for the best environment work in 2001 and 2002. This award is given by the GCC General Secretariat, with the aim of promoting environmental awareness. Saudi Amarco won this prize for its "constant, determined efforts in the field environmental protection." The company also has plans that include health regulations, contingencies for oil leaks, guidelines for disposal of hazardous materials, and standards for air quality.

The Qatar Petroleum company is an oil company that is striving to make there product very environmentally friendly. Qatar Petroleum has many plans for the company including to achieve zero gas flaring to minimize waste and reduce carbon dioxide emissions, to maximize the utilization of energy resources to produce clean, safe energy to maintain and continuously improve security to ensure the safety of people and assets to achieve zero lost time injury through aggressive safety strategies to attain a high level of preparedness to manage emergency incidents on land or at sea, and to become a leader in sustainable development[1] As a company they are avid believers of keeping their employees and consumers aware of what they are doing with the environment. They even has a 3-day event which also included many other companies from the area to show there support to the environment and it was a fun atmosphere for everyone.
