Kudos for your excellently written section on Louis Jacobs and the DH. I would also like to add his view to the article on Mosaic Authorship. Would it be correct to say that he believed that the main portion (lets say for ex. the P document) was given at Sinai with various bits and pieces added in by prophets over the years? Hi Smerus, (I am already known to you). I had no desire to get involved in that one! And your revision seems better. The old word order slightly suggested (unintentionally I'm sure) that C.R. was signed up with You Know Who, which was a bit unfair. His book is much later, for one thing. Is it possible, do you think, for one to dislike a slight tendency towards sentimentalism in Mendelssohn's religiosity (I don't say, his religion) in oratorio, without being accused of standing in the post-Wagner tradition of detracting, and therefore without (consciously or unconsciously) attributing what one dislikes in any way to his Judaic identity? (Of course, Gounod is infinitely worse...!) Or must our admiration for Mendelssohn be without caveat? Good wishes, Eebahgum 21:06, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
