One of my heroes too! (I think he may be one of yours)... Hi Smerus, I'm trying to put in a few articles about the English-style singers of c1850-1920 period, done some on Santley, Elwes and Dawson and intend to do a few on John Coates, Ben Davies, Edward Lloyd, HP Greene etc. Braham is obviously important as a starting-point for part at least of their tradition. I detect that you wrote most of the present article, and I respect the fact that it reflects your interest in his as a Jewish musician and public figure. Would it be possible, do you think, to build in a bit more about (a) the scope of his repertoire and (b) the particular character of his vocal technique, range, use of falsetto, etc? I see you have some quotes but even these seem more related to the commentarists' prejudices about him as a Jew than (lucus a non lucendo) about the actual accomplishments of the man as a singer, which were undoubtedly very considerable and highly influential upon English singing as a whole. in short, I'd like to put a bit more focus on the voice and the musical career, and if possible I'd like you to do it, as I suspect you have the resources to do it better than me!!! I have made a few alterations (eg I think Rauzzini was a castrato) and should appreciate at any rate your reaction to these remarks. (Corpus 1976-1982.) I entirely agree with your proposal, having just created 29 sub-categories of "tubists" and thought "why on earth don't we call them tuba players?"
