[edit] Soho works/ foundry/ manufactury

We need to set this out better to help the confused reader. I think that the article may be wrong in that it is the Soho works, not foundry, that is now Avery's. This link has some info [1] Cutler 22:31, Jul 11, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Local Government

I believe that certainly in the early sixties, Smethwick was part of Birmingham, being known as "Birmingham 40". At this time it would have been in neither Staffordshire or Warley. Perhaps this was for postal reasons rather than local government ? Cabinscooter 08:00, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Smethwick has never been part of Birmingham. Prior to 1966 it was a County Borough within Staffordshire, between 1966 and 1974 it was within Warley County Borough, again part of the geographical county of Staffordshire. Since 1974 it has been part of Sandwell Metropolitan Borough. It does have a "B" postcode and 0121 telephone numbers though. Fingerpuppet 20:23, 3 February 2007 (UTC)
