SmartMusic is a software application used to help with practicing instruments and singing.

The current release is SmartMusic 10.2. There is a sister web site for managing assignments and their resulting recordings and other data called SmartMusic Impact.

This software makes it possible for a student to practice with a computer generated accompaniment. The Intelligent Accompaniment feature has the ability to speed up and slow down to follow the performer.

SmartMusic has the ability to use an audio file as the accompaniment. This is useful because the user can better hear how his part fits into the larger ensemble.

It is also possible to create practice loops to repeat a particularly difficult section of music to help master the part.

Also included are 50,000 exercises, a tuner, and a digital audio recorder.

With Finale (software), you may create original accompaniments that work with SmartMusic.

SmartMusic Impact is a website makes it possible to send and collect SmartMusic assignments. Teachers can set the parameters of the assignment in Impact and review the recordings, assessment and other work as the assignments are returned to Impact.

The software is available for both Windows XP/Vista as well as Mac OS X
