Slovak noble families

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a list of some of the historic noble families originating from the territory of present-day Slovakia. The main area of modern Slovakia was part of the Kingdom of Hungary from the 10th and 11th centuries and later of the Habsburg Monarchy. Titles were granted by the King of Hungary and also by foreign kings.

As in most regions of Europe, many of the noble families were of mixed ethnic origins, spoke various languages (especially Latin, which was the official language of the Kingdom of hungary until the 19th century), and owned property in different parts of Central Europe. That is why this list overlaps with similar lists of other modern countries. See also Nobility and royalty of the Kingdom of Hungary.
