Slam is a novel written by British author Nick Hornby, published in 2007. The book's main theme is teenage pregnancy and is written from the perspective of the teenage boy, Sam.

Sam lives alone with his mother. She got pregnant with him at the age of 16 with her old boyfriend. Sam is an intelligent, typical teenager who is just at the turning point into the live of an adult. Instead of girls he’s got skating (no not inline skating, skateboarding) on his mind. He is the biggest Tony Hawk fan. Tony is his major idol, everything he does, he does it like Tony. Sam can even recite Hawks autobiography. Tony is even his secret respondent. When Sam has got some problem he just opens the book and reads some meaningful or senseless sentence to answer his questions. One evening Sam’s mother takes him to a party where he meets Alicia. She just got divorced with her boyfriend because of not wanting to have sex with him. Sam and Alicia fell in love with each other and have their first sex experience. After some time Sam gets bored and goes back to skating but his feelings of having been careless turn out to be true. Alicia is pregnant. Because of being nervous and not wanting to have to face the truth he runs away from home. But after one day he feels guilty and returns back home where he has to face reality. His strange dreams send him into the future. There he gets to know how live will be with having a child. Living with Alicia and her parents and having to go to the doctor shock him because in his dreams he even doesn’t know the name of his son. Alicia who decided to give birth to the kid and so Sam’s dreams turn out to be true. But the problems go on and the further story tells us about the life of Sam with Alicia and how they manage to solve things.
