Skinning refers to removing skin, usually from a dead animal; it may also refer to:
In computers:
- Surface representation used to draw a character in skeletal animation in 3D computer graphics and animation
- Creating 2D textures which are then applied to 3D meshes to give the mesh more detail and lighting
- Act of creating a "skin" (also called "themes") to change appearance of a computer program
- Skinnable, programs that support skins
In other uses:
- Metaphor for the removal of all or much of the essence of something, leaving the object (which can even be abstract) in a much poorer state, for example under-funded after skinning its budget
