SJK(C) Han Chiang

SJK(C) Han Chiang is a school located in Jalan Lim Lean Teng, Penang, Malaysia. It is one of the most successful schools in Penang.

The school was founded in 1919 by The Teow Chew Association of Penang. The school was first located at a small site. Constructions of the building started in 1919 and completed in 2 years time. The new building was launched on 10 October 1922. Due to the increasing number of students, Mr.Lim Lean Teng gave the school and Han Chiang High School a big piece of land measuring 33 acres. Construction of the new school commenced and was completed in August 1962. In September 1962, the school moved in to this school block. In the 1990s, the present school building could not cope with the student enrolment. In 1994, The Han Chiang Board Of Directors decided to build a 3-level new school block which consists of a hall, a canteen, a library, a conference room, an arts and crafts room, a computer room, a music room and 18 classrooms. Constructions begin on July 1994. The foundation stone of the building was located by Dato H'ng Bok San on March 1995. The building was officially launched by The Chief Minister Of Penang, Tan Sri Dr. Koh Tsu Koon. The school anniversary was celebrated on 18 August until 2007, after a check on the history books, the real date of the school's anniversary was on 10 October. The school anniversary was changed to 10 October from 18 August. The school was repainted and the school hall was renovated on the 24 September 2007, in time for the 88th Anniversary Celebration of the school on 10 October 2007. At present, the school has 914 students and 48 teachers.

In 2006, 4 students from SJK(C) Han Chiang achieved 2nd place in the Dumex National Science Championship which took place in the Sekolah Wawasan, Kuala Lumpur. Also on that year, the school choir achieved another 2nd place in a choir competition between Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Malacca schools. On 2007, 43 students from the school obtained 7As in the national examination Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah(UPSR). The school also had a 86.9% pass rate.
