[edit] Clean-up Needed

Much of this article is designed like a (poorly written) advertisement. Some of the information seems to be presented using corny jokes and such. The article seems to be written like a company-provided park history, not an unbiased encyclopedia article. Along with the need to clean out some of the advertisement-like bias and corniness in this article, there are dozens of grammatical errors, especially involving seemingly random capitalization that is used incorrectly. Please check through this article and re-write as necessary to clean up the bias and cheap jokes (e.g. "It is the perfect destination for Families with small children" in the description of Wiggles World (notice the incorrect capitalization as well) or the entire description of the upcoming ride "The Dark Knight") and at the same time also fixing the many grammatical errors.

[edit] Photos

What the hell happened to all of the photos?--Jon Revelle 04:15, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

Looks like somebody removed 'em without being noticed. [1]. I've merged them back in. --Interiot 15:32, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism!

After details of 1997, the rest of the article has been cut off. 60.39.36.152's vandalism has been cleaned up.--User:jonrev 00:30, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] History

I added a complete history of the park. Plese correct any errors if found. I am also adding photos of some of the major rides.--Jon Revelle 08:19, 31 December 2005 (UTC)

Hey, Jon. I am replacing your picture of the Columbia carousel with a much sharper, higher resolution one.

[edit] Major revision

The article had a good start but it really needed some more added to it because essentially it was a chronology of rides. I added a ton more on the front end highlighting some things that made Mariott's Great America different from the park that exists today. I'm going to work on this some more but so far culling the source material my memory has been pretty darn arccurate! I look forward to working with folks more on it. What we really need is some more and better photos. --Wgfinley 07:14, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orleans Orbit/Orbit

Are you sure that Orbit in Hometown Square is a different ride? According to several websites it is the exact same ride with paint modifications.

Yeah, I think that needs to be fixed, originally I thought it was much smaller than the original Orleans Orbit but looking at the pics over at GA Parks that doesn't appear to be the case. --Wgfinley 01:43, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Orleans Orbit/Orbit was an Anton Schwarzkopf Enterprise ride and usually those kind of rides are built the same size. I dont know how you would've seen the ride as smaller.--Jon Revelle 03:32, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Rapids Crow reference

Anyone know what the heck this reference is about "final ride of The Crow", I have no idea what that is. Never heard it referred to and I worked the ride for 4 years and never heard that reference. --Wgfinley 01:47, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Rapids was the last ride added by Marriott. So RR is the final ride of (Marriott's) the crow.--Jon Revelle 02:59, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Crowds / how-to information

Detailed how-to information (what time to arrive at the park, what rides one should or should not visit first) are generally not considered encyclopedic, but are appropriate for Wikibooks. I believe the {{move to wikibooks}} for that section is entirely appropriate, though the section could simply be trimmed down (AFAIK, very small amounts of how-to info may pop up in encyclopedia articles sometimes). --Interiot 13:25, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Shows and entertainment

Removed this whole section. It looks like it was lifted directly from advertising material and poorly written overall. The information might be useful, but it needs to be drastically edited. If someone else wants to make the corrections, please go ahead. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Great america logo.jpg

Image:Great america logo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 22:15, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
