Sister Nancy (born Ophlin Russell)-Myers is known to the world as the first woman DJ she has been doing this for the past 30 years. Born on January 2, 1962 at 5 Tavern Avenue Kingston 6 in Papine Nancy has been an inspiration for all female DJ that follows. After taking on the reigning dancehall Dons of the day, Nancy tackled the tougher than tough (YARD) Jamaican audiences, becoming the first ever popular female DJ out of Jamaica and worldwide she is the role model for successive generations of sisters and ladies, from LADY SAW TO SISTER CAROL, LADY G, CARLA MARSHALL, SHELLY THUNDER AND MACKA DIAMOND,JUNIE RANKS and LADY P many more just naming a few Sister Nancy is 13th of 15 siblings her older brother Robert Russell better known and beloved as BRIGADIER JERRY is her role model he is my everything she says as she smile as usual Almighty God inspired her she said.Its because of my brother Nancy says, His dance them and all them things and I use to watch and listen him and said that is something that i want to do I Love all my brothers and sisters and still maintain a close relationship with them.

At age 15 Nancy began Djing on Chalice Stereophonics sound system along side General Echo then after their death she move on to Killamangaro with Jim Kelly and Dirty Harry selector Ainsley.Though MUMA LIZA was, technically the first female duo with NIGGA KOJACK, arriving couple months earlier Nancy was the breakthrough one for the females, that's why she's the Only Woman DJ with Degree. Surprisingly her male counterparts were supportive most of the Male DJ's in them time and even now at present young and old stop calling her SISTER instead they called her MUMA meaning Mother of them all.

In 1979, Nancy did her first single, titled PAPA DEAN "for producer Winston Riley on the Techniques Record Label then again in 1980 with MONEY CAN'T LOVE with Techniques together combination then in 1981 he produced ONE TWO single and released it in 1982 March of that year that led her to her first Reggae Sunsplash performance Sister Nancy becomes the first female DJ to ever performed at that event, she is also the first female DJ to ever leave her native Jamaica to take dancehall among female to another level global original dancehall.In 1982 she blew up, with her debut album titled ONE TWO named after the single because it did take off and did well, her silvery voice and unique flow on tunes like TRANSPORT CONNECTION and the ever Classic hit and movie (BELLY)sound track BAM BAM. She was featured with the heavies Briggy and Eek A Mouse on heartbeat's Label Landmark" A DEE JAY EXPLOSION Inna Dance Hall Style." this is the first live dancehall album ever to produced out of Jamaica, then she went foreign in 1982 Nancy toured countries like America, England, Canada, Japan and most Caribbean Island after a month and a half tour away from Jamaica Muma returned she linked with another rising star called Yellow Man she said we met when he use to come around stereophonic where she use to work with General Echo and Maddoo or Gemini at Skateland in Half Way Tree so the man that owned the sound ACES INTERNATIONAL I think his name was JIMMY she said he invited me to work with Yellow Man on his sound in Morant Bay St. Thomas so I did after the dance that night JIMMY said we make a good team so I start working with the sound along side Yellow Man and the late FAT HEAD and LITTLE HARRY after the Stereophonics crew were killed. In 1983 on the Volcano's Lable which was owned by the late great HENRY (JUNJO)LAWES we did an album titled the YELLOW THE PURPLE AND THE NANCY for Volcano and Greensleves with PURPLE MAN.

Sister Nancy has recorded for reggae's finest producers: Included King Jammy's, Volcano,Fire House, Mr. Fix IT, VP, Greensleves,Easy Star,Jah Life Records and Bobby Digital she was the first female he Bobby had ever recorded for his own labelBobby Digital,then later she joined Beenie Man, Little Lenny,Tonto Metro and Little Kirk at Shocking Vibes as a member with manager and producer Patrick Roberts she was the first to be accepted to be apart of that stable as a female DJ she still carries her Shocking Vibes ID around. Throughout her career, Nancy has known and worked with reggae's best and royalty, Augustus Pablo was one of her brethrens, she said reminisces, you couldn't find a cooler brethern than that man she said, I asked her who is Nancy's favorite singer out of Jamica (YARD)as she called it when she speaks about Jamaica,DENNIS EMANUEL BROWN, she said who else it could be she says smiling, I did not have to ask her who is her favorite DJ (male)she said my brother and teacher BRIGADIER JERRY with nuff respect, he is in a glass case by himself but I'm not talking about him still she said JOSEY WHALES, CHARLIE CHAPLIN,U BROWN I really honor them man deh, well with the youth them now SIZZLA, BUJU and KILLA what happen to the woman them I asked she said smiling well SISTER CAROL,LADY P, LADY G let mi tell you something she says to me I will listen to all of the woman them they are all ok to me and a hold them own ground in their own rights in this business yu si mi. MUMA NANCY continues to perform and tour when ever she can knowing that she now holds down a 9 to 5 job for the past eight years as an accountant in one of the biggest banks in the State of New Jersey she always delight her audiences, she does frequent shows in Florida, Texas, California, Canada and even back home a (YARD) Jamaica and all over the States she tours Europe every year in October.

In 2006, she collaborated with Thievery Corporation on their 2006 compilation Versions, on the track "Originality". In 2007, Sister Nancy voiced a newer dubplate of her song "Bam Bam" with new lyrics for Atlanta ragga/drum and bass DJ Tester. Sister Nancy is known for her powerful voice and commanding presence.

Sister Nancy's "Bam Bam" is a well-known chat which was recorded over the Winston Riley produced riddim track "Stalag 17", first released as an instrumental in 1974 by the Techniques All-Stars (featuring Ansel Collins on organ). "Stalag 17" is also famous as the backing track for the 1985 Tenor Saw classic "Ring the Alarm" --and is the riddim track for several other tunes such as "BHCC" by Riki Rocksteady & Selector Benny.

"Bam Bam" is a song that has continually been acknowledged, referenced and sampled by hip-hop artists and other reggae and dancehall performers. Main Source was the first hip-hop group to sample "Bam Bam" in "Just Hangin' Out", a song from their 1991 debut album Breaking Atoms, produced by Large Professor. Pete Rock, the legendary hip-hop producer, sampled "Bam Bam" in "The Basement", a song from the Pete Rock & CL Smooth album Mecca and the Soul Brother which features rap verses from emcees Pete Rock, CL Smooth, Heavy D, Rob-O, and Deda. Compton-area rapper Guerilla Black sampled "Bam Bam" in his song "Compton". Cam'ron has also sampled the song for a track on his "Public Enemy #1" mixtape.

The song has also been remixed by Krinjah, a junglist from Canada. This song is featured in Electronic Arts (EA) video game titled Skate.

Sister Nancy has one child a daughter from a previous relationship she is now twenty years old, and at the moment attending the University of the State of New Jersey. Sister Nancy is currently married to her long time sweet heart of over twenty years from her home town in Papine Jamaica,they now resides in New Jersey with her mother and the rest of her family. Sister Nancy was awarded with many reggae music awards out of Jamaica,and abroad SHE ALWAYS THANK THE PEOPLE WHO WORKED WITH HER AND SUPPORT HER OVER THE YEARS AND STILL DO, AND TO HER FANS SHE SAID JAH GUIDE AND PROTECT EVERY LIVING SOUL, RASTAFARI HE LIVES ALWAYS HIGHLY BLESS.
