Singshot.com link title was founded by Ranah Edelin and Niranjan Nagar in January of 2006 and is a karaoke website designed to allow its users to choose from a vast selection of music then record their own versions. Members use a microphone connected to a computer to record themselves along with the site's karaoke player. There is no provision for transposing, so all songs must be recorded in the same key.
There are many user created contests, although usually not for monetary prizes, just for "bragging rights". Although, on some occasions, contests are sponsored. Members are allowed to rate other member's performances on a five star scale and can leave "feedback" on the performances.
It was started on July 31st, 2006, only for the intent of usage by paid subscriptions. The subscriptions, as of January 2007, are optional, because, the core features are now free to use.
It was listed as one of Time's Coolest Websites in 2006.
On February 12, 2007, Electronic Arts acquired SingShot Media. [1]
On September 5th, 2007 Singshot.com changed to The Sims On Stage. It is still like the original SingShot, but users can now be represented by customizable Sims and create movie mashups, poems, comedy, etc on the site.
