[edit] Liberalism stub ?

In France, Simone Veil is known to be a centrist. Besides, she only participated in center-to-center-right governments, never to socialist ones...

In the United States, the current common meaning of "liberal" is "left-wing". However, this is not the case in Europe. In France, libéral tends to mean "right-winger in favour of free markets; however, it can allude to a wider tradition of government leaving freedoms to the people. Simone Weil probably fits that latter definition, if only for her fight for keeping government intervention out of the personal choices of women and couples.
