I think it is. He is reasonably significant within music journalism and writes for a mass-circulation newspaper. He's not some obscure Q hack who shows no passion and has never inspired passion in anyone else. RobinCarmody 02:40, 23 September 2006 (BST)
[edit] Source for "controversy"
"He controversially moved a 16 year old girl into his home whom he met from a Manic Street Preacher chatroom when he was 32."
Statements like this really need to be sourced. Where was the "controversy", e.g. did the girl's parents kick up a fuss? Did either of them dump an existing partner before shacking up? Was the whole thing publicised in the national press? 217.155.20.163 21:27, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
I've removed the whole 'controversy' section. Not only is it completely unsourced, but it's badly written (no surprises there). Exclusive gossip, regardless of veracity, on a subject's private life is not relevant to an encyclopedia. If it becomes fodder for widespread discussion by professional newspapers a la Rod Liddle, fair enough. Till then, it has no place here.--87.74.24.198 21:15, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
The statements about him and a 16 year old girl are sourced. The sources given are the very people involved. This wasn't ever in the news, but his hairstyle never made the papers either. It's noteworthy as it shows a pattern of sexual deviancy. And also serves as a "where are they now" thing. If you feel the section is badly worded, feel free to make alterations.
Further reference material about him and Ally Moss is her MySpace ( http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=137551 ) where she gives her current age as 23. On the club's website history page ( http://www.staybeautifulclub.co.uk/history.htm ) it states that he started the club (with Ally) in 2001. That makes her 16 at the time. The statements are all true and therefore not libelous. I don't know how to cite this, so feel free to do so yourself.
- And do think MySpace fits the wikipedia definition of a "reliable source"? --feline1 11:23, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
Not good enough, really. You're using separate information on websites in your own personal detective work, which is what's known as original research. Original research is banned on Wikipedia. Whoever you are, you're coming across as having a personal obsession about SP and his girlfriends' ages. Wikipedia is not the place to grind POV axes. Until you can find a citation of an article in the professional media about his private life and proof of any coverage of a controversy, I'm removing the passage. Take it elsewhere. And please carefully read the Wikipedia page on original research before editing again. The rule in a nutshell is: "Articles may not contain any unpublished arguments, ideas, data, or theories; or any unpublished analysis or synthesis of published arguments, ideas, data, or theories that serves to advance a position."--87.74.24.198 19:39, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
Er - apart from anything else - since when did a consensual sexual relationship between two persons, both of whom were over the age of consent at the time, "show a pattern of sexual deviancy"?! Mad, quite mad. AdorableRuffian 01:53, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
