Simon O'Brien (BMX rider)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Simon O'Brien (born 18 September 1979) is an Australian flatland BMX rider. He is probably Australia's best flatlander at the moment[citation needed] and has won the American X Games gold medal for flatland (the last rider to do so since ESPN scrapped the event) and many other competitions around the world. Since then he has gone on to win Australia's BMX Games two times in a row and performed the "bomb trick" in 2005.

Simon recently has completed his first solo DVD project, titled "Made You look".

[edit] Signature Frame

In 2006, Simon was rewarded for his hard work with his first signature frame through his sponsor St-Martin but has recently left his other sponsor and is now riding for Colony. Simon felt that St-Martin and him had different views of where flatland is headed. The "Happy Place" frame was based on his then current and long time Ares Bykes ride. Most angles, lengths and shape (including the Ares signature bent down tube) were slightly tweaked for the "Happy Place" frame. Although Simon does not run back brakes, The frame was released with Removable U-Brake stays on the seatstays and removable brake tabs on the head tube.

The frame was released in the colour yellow, much like the frame Simon used.
