Linton was born in New York City to Edward Chaiken and Augusta Longwill Chaiken, and raised in New York City, New York.
As an undergraduate, she attended Columbia University in New York City, and earned her bachelors degree in Psychology. She went on to obtain a Ph.D. in Psychology from New York University.
