Silver Tankard Stakes
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Silver Tankard Stakes is a Listed flat horse race in the United Kingdom for two-year-old thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 1 mile 4 yards (1,613 m) at Pontefract Racecourse in October.
High class horses to have contested the race include Swallow Flight (second in 1998), Bandari (winner by nine lengths in 2001) and Maraahel (fourth in 2003). But perhaps the most notable runner of recent years is the 2004 winner "Comic Strip". Later in his career he was exported to be trained in Hong Kong, where he was re-named Viva Pataca, and became a multiple winner of Group 1 races.
