[edit] Welcome
Welcome to Wikipedia. To find out how to make useful contributions, take a look at the welcome page. To stay in Wikipedia, an article has to be about something notable, that is, of general interest. Click on Notability for an explanation of what that means. Also, it must give independently verifiable sources. Articles that don't meet these requirements are likely to be deleted. Follow the links below to learn more:
- To find out more about creating articles, read the Introduction and the Guide to creating your first article.
- You should not write articles about yourself, your band, or your best friend - that's a conflict of interest.
- Wikipedia is not an advertising service. Before writing about your own business, read Business' FAQ.

[edit] Your article Sidnei da Silva (programmer)
I have moved the page "Sidnei da Silva (programmer)" you created to your user page, as it seems to be about yourself. If you intended it to be an article in the main encyclopedia, you may re-create it, but first please read the guidelines Notability and Notability (people), and also the guidelines on autobiography, conflict of interest and advertising, to understand why it would probably be deleted. Hi John. My intention was just to add a short stub to be linked from Sidnei da Silva (disambiguation) because of the unfortunate popularity of my name in Brazil. In my opinion the article would fit within the criteria described on Notability (people) due to my involvement since the inception of the Plone (software) project and major contributions to other open source projects, but certainly of dubious validity per guidelines on autobiography, conflict of interest and advertising. I will leave it up to your judgement if it should be re-created or not. Sidnei.da.silva (talk) 18:33, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
- My apologies for slow response - I have only just adopted the strategy of watching others' talk pages for a response to my messages, and I forgot to watch yours. And I am sorry, but I don't think you qualify under Notability (people), which requires you to have been "the subject of published secondary source material which is reliable, intellectually independent, and independent of the subject." Even if you could produce sources, the autobiograph and COI issues would be a bar. The usual, though not very helpful, advice in these circumstances is "you should wait for somebody else to write about you." However, I hope you will stay around and contribute to Wikipedia - see the links in the Welcome paragraph above. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 22:31, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
