[edit] Merge Sideman with Session musician?

Not sure why - they are not exactly the same. My understanding is sidemen perform in concert and session musicians generally do not leave the studio. What would you call the combined article? Cricket02 04:01, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

I agree - I don't think they should be merged. The situation for a sideman is totally different than a session musician. - AKeen 06:51, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
I agree that the two should remain separate articles. It would be useful if someone could write a short, concise description of the difference between the two terms that could be used at the beginning of each article. Engineer Bob 01:05, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
I believe there is enough consensus against on both talk pages. I am removing the merge tag. Cricket02 07:22, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Butch Taylor, of the Dave Matthews Band

What is the status of Butch Taylor, the keyboardist who has played and recorded with the Dave Matthews Band for many years, but is not considered an "official" member of the band? Is he a sideman? A guest musician? A band member? Something else?
