Sade-Teen Muhurt -- addition under Gudi padwa on 10.4.2008 Though as per Hindu system of Muhurtas, Sade-teen Muhurtas ( 1st Tihi of Chaitra Bright Half - Gudi Padwa, 10th Tithi of Ashvin (Vijay Dashmi), Akshya Tritya and 1st Tithi of Karttika (Bright Half) are termed as Sade-Teen Muhurt; during which any work initiated should bring success, is in general acceptance of Hindu Electional Astrology. But care must be taken that these days are not suilled. For example on 6th April, 2008 when Gudi Padwa was celebrated, can not be considered as auspicious as the 1st Tithi was Khasya Tithi. New activity started on this day should not be succesful, as per the dictums on Hindu astrology due to the reason stated above.

This is regarding " Combust" under astrology. My comments are as following:
It is incorrect to mention that a planet is said to be combust when it forms an arc of less than 3 degrees of the arc of the Sun.
Combustion of a planet is a phenomenon when a planet is not visible from the earth through a naked eye. The Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus & Saturn become combust, during their direct motion, when their longitudinal arc is 12, 17, 14, 11, 10 & 16 degrees respectively from the Sun on either side. During retrograde motions Mercury & Venus become combust when the said arc is 12 & 8 degrees respectively. Exact longitudinal arc depends upon declination of the Sun & the concerned planet. Daily ephemeredes do indicate the time & date of start & end the combustion of different planets as seen from a specific place on the earth. The Moon, Mars, mercury Jupiter, Venus & Saturn remain combust for 2, 118, 11 to 20, 28, 53 & 57 days approximately during their direct motion & during retrograde motion Mercury & Venus remain combust for 21 to 33 & 5 days respectively. Mars Jupiter & Saturn do not combust when in their retrograde motion. It is astronomically termed as “heliacal setting”.
In Vedic / Hindu system of astrology, a planet is said to devoid of its strength when in combustion. This astronomical phenomenon the most adversely weakens a planet. However Mercury is said to be extremely weak if it is with the Sun in the same sign in divisional chart (Navamsha – Chart having 9 parts of a sign). Combust planet. Combust Moon is shunned in all good elections. A planet within one degree from the Sun is said to most powerless. In addition to adverse effects in the natal astrology, a combust planet is weak to render beneficial effects during its favorable transit to a nativity.
Eclipse of luminaries is analogous to combustion, in which case either of the luminaries is not visible & the corresponding period is the most dreadful period in astrological effects, especially in electional astrology. Even period following the eclipse, is also prohibited, depending upon the degree of severity of the eclipse.
Shridharvk, You are right about that article being messed up. Do you mind if I copy what you wrote here and use it to fix the Combust article? --Chris Brennan 17:56, 25 February 2006 (UTC )
