Talk:Shrine of Remembrance (disambiguation)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Although I have attempted to change all the links to Shrine of Remembrance, Melbourne, I have found it impossible to be able to change five of the links. My apologises for any problems which have resulted from this. Figaro 05:40, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

I disagree with the disambiguation. The Melbourne shrine is by far the most notable, so a primary topic disambiguation should have been used.--cj | talk 12:15, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
There is more than one Shrine of Remembrance in Australia. Each Shrine of Remembrance deserves an equal place in what is, after all, an International Encyclopedia. It is not a 'popularity contest'. The Shrines of Remembrance (all of them) are to honour Australia's war dead, and all such war memorials should be equally respected as such. Putting one Shrine of Remembrance above others in importance is discourteous to the memory of those who sacrificed their lives for Australia, and discourteous to what the Shrines stand for. It's an issue of notability, not popularity. If Google is any guide, the Melbourne shrine is notable, the others are not. It is most likely that anyone searching for "Shrine of Remembrance" on Wikipedia will expect to get an article on the Melbourne shrine. And is there actually a "Shrine of Remembrance" in Hyde Park, Sydney, or are you referring to the Anzac War Memorial? The "references" you give are hardly conclusive. 203.49.133.29 23:41, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
It is standard Wikipedia practice to prioritise articles with respect to notability. Of course there is room for other Shrines around Australia, but there's nothing wrong with having the Melbourne shrine as the main article. Whilst I respect the efforts of those who fought and fell in the wars, we don't need to tip-toe around the issue because of this. Cnwb 01:21, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

There is a Shrine of Remembrance in Brisbane, and another in Ulverstone Tas. They are not nearly as well known as the Melbourne one but they do exist. The solution should be to leave this article at Shrine of Remembrance, and link it to Shrine of Remembrance (disamgiguation) for on-reference to articles on Shrine of Remembrance, Brisbane and Shrine of Remembrance (Ulverstone). Yes, this was my point. A primary topic disambiguation should have been used. Figaro, please review Wikipedia:Disambiguation. --cj | talk 12:18, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
Fixed.--cj | talk 14:29, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
Why is Cyberjunkie attempting to remove as many links as possible to the Shrine of Remembramce in Brisbane? Figaro 09:56, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
I have removed it where appropriate because it is not a memorial of international or national significance. I have responded to your other comments on your talk page.--cj | talk 13:17, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
  • Thanks for formatting the page to comply with Wikipedia rules. Excellent work I appreciate it very much. Figaro 10:28, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

My original revision was in accordance with that guideline.--cj | talk 13:17, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

Figaro, as we have set this as a primary topic disambiguation, the Melbourne Shrine must be mentioned at first instance per correct layout. --cj | talk 05:46, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
Please specify what was wrong with the way that A Y Arktos edited the page. After all, it was his edit to which you last objected.
Also, I spent two years working at the University of Melbourne as a researcher, and I never heard anybody mention the Shrine of Remembrance. Figaro 07:10, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
I'm not sure what your second point has to do with anything, but I have linked above the reason for my edit.--cj | talk 07:21, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
  • I am now happy with the way this page is formatted. I acknowledge Cyberjunkie's point that linking with a primary topic is appropriate. It was not appropriate to fully revert back to excessive non dab links but we seem to have moved beyond that.--A Y Arktos 09:47, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
