Shripad Narayan Pendse

Shripad Narayan Pendse (1913 – March 24, 2007) was a major Indian novelist of the post-Independence period. Writing in Marathi, he has numerous novels to his credit out of which Haddapar (The Outcast), Garambacha Bapu (Bapu of Garambi) and Tumbadche Khot (The Khots of Tumbad) are famous. His Rathachakra (The Chariot-Wheel) won him the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1963.[1] An English translation of Garambacha Bapu was published as Wild Bapu of Garambi in 1969 as part of a UNESCO collection of representative works, organised with the Sahitya Akademi.[2] He died in Mumbai.
