[edit] Removal of "Short sale (real estate)" internal wiki link from Real estate article

There seems to have been no discussion on either this or the real estate page.

This article needs a lot of work. Right now, it reads like a promo piece or is copied from an existing web site or other source. Viva-Verdi (talk) 15:57, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes there is a discussion at User talk:Nanonerdz to try and discuss the repeated addition of seemingly promotional material. But that is where to follow what is going on. Montco (talk) 16:14, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Various problems with the tone of the article

  • "An incredible opportunity lies in buying a short sale. Since there are thousands of homes in loan default and facing foreclosure, the property owners need to get out of their mortgage fast before the bank takes them over." is utterly unsourced and seems a bit self serving.
  • This bit "If you have been thinking of buying a home, don't buy retail, you can currently buy below wholesale. Most homes are being sold at a 25%-60% discount of their market value. For example: A home purchased in 2005 for $400,000 can easily be purchased today for $200,000-$250,000, if shopped and negotiated correctly." looks like it was ripped off your webpage or marketing materials"
  • "For you protection we recommend that you work with real estate specialist that has exceptional experience in short sale negotiations. They can help you identify the mortgages and deeds of the proprieties that are in pre-foreclosure or foreclosure. In addition, finding the right home for you, they can actually make sure you’re protected from future repercussion you may have with the lender." Encyclopedia articles aren't written in the first person and don't make recommendations to the reader.
  • "Working with a short sale specialist can dramatically increase your chances of a lender approving your short sale offer. If everything is done correctly everyone will reap the benefits of a short sale. The buyer gets the home they were looking for at a reasonable price. The lender gets the settlement offer they want and cut their losses. The realtor makes a small commission, and by far the biggest winner is the seller. The seller gets to avoid foreclosure (possibly bankruptcy), save their credit, and most importantly relieve themselves from any financial responsibility they have as a part of the negotiation." Again this is broad, self serving and unsourced. Montco (talk) 16:20, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Why are we removing wiki links to this article from various other real estate ones?

I'm not quite sure why this is happening.

Since it is a valid article to link to from other real estate-related articles - albeit a poorly written one until about 30 mins ago since when editors have improved it hugely - Would it not make more sense to retain the links but improve the article to make it worthwhile reading??? Viva-Verdi (talk) 16:54, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Removal of a cross-link because the article it points to is of inferior quality is a bad idea:
  1. If you remove the link then fewer people will find the 'broken' article - which means that fewer people will be likely to fix it. Simply hiding bad articles is not the way to progress the encyclopedia.
  2. If it is felt that this article is beyond redemption - or not a valid topic for a Wikipedia article - then the correct approach is to apply to WP:AfD to have it deleted. Even if that's the correct way forward, removing the link before that decision is made is hardly appropriate.

I removed a few of the links because I felt the relevance was a bit of a stretch (the user who'd rewritten the article into a promo had added most of them). OhNoitsJamie Talk 20:17, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Editor SteveBaker makes an excellent point. We seem to have accomplished the short sale article re-write to make it a lot better already. Viva-Verdi (talk) 21:05, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
