Shore Road Pumping Station
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Shore Road Pumping Station is situated in Birkenhead, Wirral. It contains the pumps which remove water from the rail tunnel under the River Mersey. When it was built in the 1870s [1] the pumps were driven by steam beam engines. Electric pumps subsequently replaced the beam engines; however one of the original pumps remains on display[2][1].
